OPUS Archives Welcomes Two New Board Members and Archives Assistant
Santa Barbara, CA – OPUS Archives and Research Center is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished professionals to its Board of Directors, Jamie Mayo, Ph.D., PMHNP, and Randal Lea, MA, LADAC, QCS, as well as the addition of Stephanie Grimes, an interdisciplinary scholar and Ph.D. candidate at King’s College London, as the organization’s new Archives Assistant.
In welcoming these individuals, OPUS affirms its founding mission: to care for the archives of soul, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and extend the reach of depth-psychology knowledge into the future.
Jamie Mayo, Ph.D., PMHNP brings a richly interdisciplinary background to the OPUS Board. A second-generation American of Cuban, Scottish, and Lithuanian heritage, Dr. Mayo has spent the past decade advancing biomedical research and patient care in both the United States and Australia. She is a trained EMDR therapist, a Navy veteran, and a specialist in integrative psychotherapy, trauma healing, and psychedelic-assisted modalities. Dr. Mayo views storytelling as essential to health and sees her role as a psychiatric nurse practitioner as “a container for the individual and collective story as we travel together down unknown paths to make meaning.”
Reflecting on her appointment to the Board, Dr. Mayo shared, “What a gift to be part of the constantly unfolding and evolving dream that is OPUS, in tender guardianship of the Ancestors great works, helping to hold a container that can love these works forward by connecting them with the minds and hearts of the current generation.”
Randal Lea, MA, LADAC, QCS joins the Board with over three decades of experience in clinical addiction counseling, public service, and trauma-informed care. He currently serves as Chief Community Recovery Officer at Cumberland Heights Foundation and teaches at both Southwestern College in Santa Fe and the Academy of Imagination’s Dream Tending program. A national award recipient and former Assistant Commissioner with Tennessee’s Department of Children’s Services, Mr. Lea brings to OPUS a legacy of ethical leadership, dream-centered practice, and advocacy for vulnerable populations.
Mr. Lea offered the following reflection on joining OPUS, “Opus is truly unique in its mission to protect and preserve vital source documents in depth psychology, mythology, and the humanities. It is an honor to help with the preservation and sharing of the artifacts of the elders and visionaries who have shaped these fields with the researchers who will continue to advance the edges of scholarship.”
Stephanie Grimes joins the OPUS staff as Archives Assistant. A current Ph.D. candidate in Digital Humanities at King’s College London, Stephanie’s work explores how technology shapes the memory of artworks across time. Her research, supported by the US-UK Fulbright Commission, the British School at Athens, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King’s College, weaves together media theory, art history, and classical studies to help make historic objects more discoverable, relatable, and meaningful for contemporary audiences.
“It is a joy to welcome Jamie, Randal, and Stephanie into the work of OPUS,” said Jennifer Frémont, Archivist and Administrative Director. “Each of them brings an expansive vision, grounded in practice, care, and imagination. Their presence deepens our shared commitment to preserving the wisdom of our past while engaging the questions and voices of the present and cultivating the conditions for future insight and discovery.”
Together, these appointments expand OPUS’s cross-disciplinary reach, bridging psychotherapy, neuroscience, addiction recovery, and digital humanities, while honoring the soul-centered legacy of its founding figures. As OPUS continues its work preserving the artifacts, libraries, papers and creative legacies of Joseph Campbell, Marija Gimbutas, Marion Woodman, James Hillman, and others, it welcomes these new voices into the collective work of archival stewardship, storytelling, and the care of cultural memory.
